Learning to Animate
Today in Kotare we are learning to use explain everything to make an animation. We chose a story that we had been reading to re-tell. The students had to lasso their character and then they also could look at different clip arts to add to the animation. Then the students re-told the story using their voice and sound effects. Today we even were able to use our new stylis pens on the Ipads.
We will share some of the finished animations later in the week.

Seed Dispersal
We know how humans reproduce themselves, but we wondered how do plants reproduce themselves?
So we watched some videos on flowers and seed dispersal. Dispersal means how something is spread around.
These are the videos we watched
BBC Bitesize - Seeds and Seed Dispersal from Arcus Studios on Vimeo.
We learnt that seeds can spread around in four ways. By the water, by the wind, through animals (on their fur and in their tummies) and by expulsion.
Expulsion means when a plant expels their seeds, either by pressure or triggers an explosion. Nelly says it looks like a bomb exploding.
We created diagrams to show these four ways of dispersing seeds.
We feel proud of our work because there is detail on the pictures, they are labelled, and we were precise with our explanations.

Sea Science...
This term in science we have been learning about what makes something living.
We learnt about MRS GREN. Mrs Gren is NOT a person... it is an mneumonic (that means letters or words that help us remember something). MRSGREN helps us remember seven characteristics of living things):
We learnt that all living things:
- Move
- Respire (that means breathe)
- Sense the world (like through sight, hearing, tasting, touching and smelling)
- Grow
- Reproduce themselvse
- Excrete (get rid of waste materials from your body...)
- Need nutrition
We created a fact file to show these characteristics in interesting sea Animals:
What do you think?

Art Works About Water
This is our Art work about sea creatures. We learnt to do blending with paint and doing lines that flow like water. We made our sea creature by sketching them with pencil. We learnt how to shade with pencil. You need to shade with pencil by using the side of the tip. We also added detail to our sea creature. I liked our blending I liked the smooth lines they feel calm. I like the light blends. Some of the art works kind of look like a galaxy because of the spiral shapes. Next time I would change my colours and creatures. Next time I would change my colours. I learnt how to draw koru's you need to spiral and then change direction and turn. I noticed by looking and seeing whats there and not relying on your memory.
